Our 2024 documentary wins top prize at the 25th El Yelmo Film Festival

Ágata, the media content manager of X-Pyr, receives the prize from the Mayor of Segura de la Sierra.

X-Pyr 2024 – The Pyrenean Challenge, the stunning film following the 2024 race across the Pyrenees, has been awarded Best Aerial Sports Film at the prestigious El Yelmo Film Festival, held recently in Andalucia. This honour recognises the film’s breathtaking cinematography, powerful storytelling, and its celebration of human endurance against nature’s grandeur.

Created by acclaimed Czech director Jaroslav Jindra, X-Pyr 2024 – The Pyrenean Challenge follows the epic feats and triumphs of athletes tackling the iconic X‑Pyr traverse through the Pyrenees, capturing one of the most gruelling multi-day hike-and-fly endurance races in the world. From the Atlantic’s crashing waves to the Mediterranean’s calm shores, this film features the essence of this extreme race – how elite pilots navigate extreme weather, altitude, and terrain while carrying only minimal gear.

The documentary highlights rampaging storms, torrential rain, freezing fog, complex thermal conditions and strategic decisions under pressure—truly a testament to endurance and alpine flying resilience. With immersive visuals and pilot comments, the film captures the physical and emotional journey of crossing 600 km of rugged mountain terrain over 7 days, bringing viewers into the heart of an extraordinary athletic feat. With breathtaking aerial drone shots, behind-the-scenes moments, sweat, tears and triumph, the film brings viewers right into the tension of each stage—promising both high adventure and human storytelling.

“This award is an incredible honour, especially from such a prestigious and long-established film festival” said Íñigo Redín, race director and founder of the X-Pyr race series.

The award was announced during the festival’s closing gala on July 5, 2025. X-Pyr 2024 – The Pyrenean Challenge was one of 11 documentaries shortlisted for the top prize at the film festival.

El Port de la Selva - Patrick Harvey-Collard

Day 7 – Last day of race

Although 17 teams arrived at the finish in Santa Helena de Rodes, we had some emotions ahead.

Patrick Harvey-Collard slept very close to the finish and was the first to arrive on the final day of the race. He crossed the finish line at 07:55 in the morning.

Still full of emotion, Friedrich Blosse and Benoit Brunet-Poirier were very close.
But Benoit lost more time trying to overtake Friedrich.
So Friedrich arrived in 19th position, at 09:02. Benoit was 20th, 8 minutes later.

The final goal was scored by the Slovenian Lenart Oblak after a really long walk.

But we had some nice stories along the route.

The pilots who had already crossed the finish line had to fly or walk to the beach at El Port de la Selva. It was tricky, but in the end they made it.
However, Sebastian and Lenart ended up reaching the beach on foot.

Sebrand Warren, who had been given a penalty the day before, decided to try to reach the goal as if nothing had happened.
And he did, having surprised some of the staff hiding at the goal when he arrived.

Florian Serra also reached the TP5-Val de Núria at the end of the day (20:30).

Some other teams decided to walk until the time limit at 21:00. So Michal Radzicki and Ben Hodgson were the 2 teams that finally closed this X-Pyr 2024.

Without them, the X-Pyr wouldn't exist.
