What is your greatest sporting success?.
They are a bit varied, before I started flying I got good results as a cyclist making podiums in the Spanish championships and winning some stages.
In paragliding, I managed to win the Spanish Championships H&F 2021, Spanish Championships XC Sport and several national leagues in the Sport class, Serial and in 2019 in the CCC class.
Lately, however, what fullfills me the most is Hike & Fly. The 4th place in the X-Pyr 2016 was a surprise to me and on top of that I enjoyed the race very much.
When and why did you start paragliding?.
My father had a paragliding school in Cadiz. I tried it from a young age.
What is your mountaineering experience?
Since I met Javi we have done many multi-adventure trips, we either climb a peak, or go rock climbing, mountain biking or canyoning. When I was living in Cadiz I only saw the mountains on holidays but I have been living in the Pyrenees for the last two years.
What does your typical training week consist of?.
I only knew about cycling, so I have had to adapt all the time to avoid getting injured when running and I had to adjust my training sessions a lot, but basically I do walking routes, hike & fly and bike when I feel stiff.
What are your best and worst sporting memories?.
The good ones are many, curiously I have very good memories of the Dolomiti Superfly, even if it has been the only competition from which I have withdrawn. Climbing up to be in the lead amongst those landscapes… I will never forget it.
I forget the bad memories, it happens to me with everything….
Why did you choose the X-Pyr?
I was passionate about mountain flying but it scared me!!!! Hahaha
I had only been competing for two years when Javi told me we had to do it and he would be my assistant. We were selected, and look at us now…
Have you participated in the X-Pyr before? How was it??
Yes, Javi and I did it in 2014, 2016 and 2018 and finished 11th, 4th and 9th.
Have you flown in the Pyrenees before? What do you think about them?.
Yes, we are getting to know them.
What will your strategy be during the race?.
It depends a little bit on my physical condition, but the main thing is to fly as often as I can.
What excites you the most about the X-Pyr?.
The scenery, the format of the race, spending a week enjoying and learning from Javi and the other pilots.
What scares you the most about the event?
I don’t worry at all. I’d like it not to rain, I’d like not to make a mistake along the route, I’d like not to get into an ugly lee… well, it doesn’t worry me whether it rains or I make a mistake, but maybe the third issue worries me a little, hahahahaha
Why will he/she make a good assistant?.
If it wasn’t for him I probably wouldn’t even do Hike & Fly. He gave me that push and we enjoy the competitions to the fullest together. Physically he’s fine, he brings me peace of mind, and helps me make good decisions.
Anything else you like to comment?
Best of luck to everyone with the preparations, see you in June!
