When and why did you start paragliding?
2015
Why have you applied to participate in the X-Pyr?
I like to explore something new and since I could not participate twice due to circumstances, I am looking forward to this year finally.
Why are you attracted to hike & fly?
In hike & fly races you have do deal with the conditions you get. That’s adventure flying. That’s what I like. Try to do best in tricky conditions.
What is your greatest sporting success (flying or not flying)?
9th and 11th place in the X-Alps, 4 times participating, 24h ultracycling Race, world ranking in Comp flying (currently 33th), winning a task at the PWCA Superfinal
What excites you most about participating in the X-Pyr?
Rough and wild mountains. Race from sea to sea.
What is your best result in a H&F competition so far?
I guess the X-Alps one counts as the best, but winning some Bordairraces and Crossalps one time was also very nice, or podium on Salewa Ironfly (3rd) and Dolomiti Superfly (2nd).
Have you flown in the Pyrenees before? Do you have a favourite area?
Ager & Targasonne. Unfortunately we did not go into the high mountains, so I am excited about the route!
What does your typical training week consist of?
Since 2019, I am training with a personal trainer. Training weeks change due to periodisation. But it s typically something like 10-14h of endurance training per week. Flying as much as possible when work allows.
What worries you the most about the event?
Running in the flats.
Personally, how do you feel differently when you participate in H & F races in comparison to XC competitions?
In hike & fly races you try to make as much distance as possible from the very first thermal to the last of the day. Quality changes a lot, so you always have to adapt, know when to fly fast, when to pull the break. Comp flying is more gaggle control and much more pushing. But it s very good training to learn to fly efficiently.
How do you know your supporter? And have your worked as athlete/supporter before?
Flo and Filippe supported me during last X-Alps. They are very nice people and work very well together. Flo is doing a lot of trail running and Filippe works as a physio in the Pyrenees 🙂
What advice would you ask of the race veterans?
How was flying in X-Pyr 2022 close to Pic du Midi de Bigorre on that very windy day? The livetracking look rough.
Anything else you like to comment?
I am looking forward to racing in the Pyrenees. But in the end it will be a nice adventure no matter if I ll be first or last. But finishing from sea to sea must be great.
