What do you like about the X-Pyr that keeps you coming back for more?
The organisers are some of the best people in paragliding.
How is the X-Pyr different from other H&F competitions you have taken part in?
Starting and ending on two separate coasts is so freaking special.
How was your race in your previous edition(s)?
My race in 2024 was a rollercoaster to say the least. I think I experienced every extreme emotion. Sobbing with disappointment and shame on top of a mountain to a single tear of joy at the finish line.
What was the best thing that happened to you in your last X-Pyr?
Taking off at Val De Nuria late in the afternoon after a full day of hiking and managing a 3 hour flight that put me in reach of the finish line.
What was the worst thing that happened to you in your last X-Pyr?
Getting sick with Covid 4 days before and running with a fever for the first half of the race…
What did you learn during the previous edition(s)?
It’s never over and there are no mistakes you can’t come back from.
If you could have input into the route, what would you suggest to the organisation?
Let’s go somewhere new.
What changes have you made to your equipment for this edition?
I moved to a full Advance kit.
Apart from flying far and walking little, what will your strategy be during the race?
For me, I’m focused on recovery. I will push hard in the air, but I will have to listen to my body when hiking. Minimising down hill and flats while being patient at take-offs and in the air will be crucial.
What three pieces of advice would you give to Rookies in the race?
Remember that you are your own pilot on your own course. Learn from your mistakes but don’t let them consume you or define you.
What about your training? How many hours do you fly a year?
I fly 250+ hours a year and normally train physically twice that, but this year I’m focused on rehab for my shattered heel. We’ll see how much I can push my training.
How do you know your supporter? And have you worked as athlete/supporter before?
Catie is my fiance and best friend. She know’s exactly what to say to keep me in in good spirits and also to balance my bold decisions.
Anything else you like to comment?
